Reach Out and Touch The Sky

This was taken while walking across the Delaware River from New Jersey to Pennsylvania on a walking bridge that connects Bulls Island State Park in NJ to Lumberville, PA. The day was windy and their was something about lighting that made the clouds seem to pop and have greater definition. Also in this version, I increased the contrast and sharpened the image slightly which gave me the feeling that I was floating over the river and could reach out and touch the clouds.

I’m now a Dragon Convert… Photos in the front yard

Well I just completed installing Dragon on my computer and the only trouble I had was getting it to run because the microphone on the headset was not working right but the mic function on my iPhone works very well with Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Contrast: Light, shadows and dominate colors of green, blue and grey

Wow, this is been one hot summer, today just happens to be one of those actually perfect summer days. A nice breeze is blowing, the temperature is probably around 85 degrees and the humidity is low for New Jersey the air actually feels, dry. I just happen to be standing out in front of the house and the sun is at a good angle of about four o’clock in the afternoon and realized that the way the sunlight was coming through the leaves in the trees made the trees appear like they were glowing depending how I looked at them and they are also casting beautiful contrasts with the absolutely crystal blue sky again another rarity in the state of New Jersey.

The base images for a possible pair of future wall hangings – maybe called the “Tree”?

So I just ran back into the house grabbed my camera and I come out to take a pictures of the trees. Basically I’m doing this as documentation for future use as I think about how I can incorporate them into my fiber art and also at the same time I realize it’s a great day to take a picture of the house considering that were getting ready to move and will probably be heading out West and in the very near future.

A view of the front yard and the light and shadows this afternoon.

Most of my photographs tend to be, at least to me, to be a study of contrasts, of light and dark, sun and shadow, but above all the pictures will be added to my photos stock collection for future use as quilted images.

Long Arm Quilting at Olde City Quilts

Rob at Olde City Quilts in Burlington NJ was nice enough to put this photo me with my recently completed Water Lily Art Quilt. The quilting was done at the shop on the long arm quilting machine known as ‘Miss Kitty’.  Check out the Olde City Quilts Facebook link to the photo.

Photos From The Garden

Earlier this week I went over to the Grounds For Sculpture which is located in Hamilton Township, NJ, just outside of Trenton. In fact, the gardens sit on the site of the old New Jersey State Fairgrounds. But I don’t go to take pictures of the sculptures and believe me they have some very, beautiful sculptures there but I go there to take a picture of the garden plants, specifically the water plants, the water lilies and the lotus. I wanted to go to the garden now because the lotus tend to be in full-blown during the month of July. I think this year I waited a little too long to catch the water lilies in full bloom , probably due to the excessive heat this summer but the few pictures that I did get I think will be very very good for using in future ‘True Image Art’ quilting projects. However, the lotus flowers were in full bloom and here are a few of the photos that I took which probably won’t be used to my quilting projects and I just wanted to give you an idea of what I had seen while in the park.

If you happen to be in the Princeton, NJ area or in central New Jersey and are looking to do something a little different, check out the Grounds For Sculpture website and you may want to go there and see what they have. The garden is a beautiful private park and the in the admission fee is very affordable. Grounds For Sculpture website is www.groundsforsculpture.org

A walk in the woods

Many people think of New Jersey as what they’ve seen in the opening scenes of the ‘Sopranos’. However that is an area of north Jersey adjacent to New York City. New Jersey does have the highest population density of the United States with about 1190 people per square mile and the majority of the people live primarily in north Jersey. South Jersey is nothing like north Jersey but most people just lump everybody New Jersey as living in one tiny little place and the people in New Jersey look at north Jersey and south Jersey as being two different states. There are many areas of south Jersey that looks like what you see in these pictures. The largest area of South Jersey are the Pinelands* and I live near the Delaware River which have a lot of hardwood woods in the area where I like to go walking. So here are some pictures of what I saw yesterday while just taking a walk through the woods.

*The Pine Barrens, also known as the Pinelands, is a heavily forested area of coastal plain stretching across southern New Jersey. The name “pine barrens” refers to the area’s sandy, acidic, nutrient-poor soil, to which the crops originally imported by European settlers didn’t take well. Despite its proximity to Philadelphia and New York City, the Pine Barrens remains largely rural and undeveloped. The ‘Pines’ also helps recharge the 17 trillion gallon Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer containing some of the purest water in the United States. As a result of all these factors, 1.1 million acres of the Pine Barrens were designated the Pinelands National Reserve (the nation’s first National Reserve) in 1978, and it was designated a United Nations International Biosphere Reserve in 1988.  [Source: excerpts from Wikipedia– Pine Barrens (New Jersey)]

Early Morning Light in the Woods

My favorite photos... Places to go, People to see, Pictures to take… Memories to keep

The photos here are some of my favorites from my travels and my walks. I plan to use them as wall decor such as Mosaic Photo Quilts, True Image Photo Art Quilts and fiber art, as well as High Quality Photographs. I would love it if you would leave a comment and tell me what you think. The photos will placed in the order of your responses, from the highest to the lowest as the list starts to expands.

Thanks for looking.

This is a photo of a stand the woods near the Assiscunk Creek in Burlington Twp. The woods caught my attention while out for a walk because of the way to low early morning spring light hit the trees and they appear to shine.
